Ultrasonographic Diagnosis of a Plastic Foreign Body Causing Duodenal Obstructıon in a Cat

Year 2020, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 74 - 79, 30.12.2020

Abstract

A 5-year-old sterilized female cat (mixed breed) was brought to the clinic with vomiting complaint. The treatment of gastrointestinal infection was started and the patient was brought back to the veterinary clinic 24 hours later with severe vomiting, fasciculation and tremor, loss of pupillar reflex and worsening general condition. In this case; ultrasonographic imaging was used instead of radiographic imaging, which is frequently used as the first imaging method. The structure of the foreign body and what could be happen was estimated in ultrasonographic examination. When the foreign body was described to the patient owner, she confirmed that her cat had a suitable toy. Blood tests revealed hyponatremia, hypochloremia and hypokalemia. Significant neurological findings (fasciculation and tremor) were observed. Hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis caused by complete duodenal obstruction was diagnosed. After the patient's postoperative care was completed, full recovery was achieved.

Bir Kedide Duodenal Obstruksiyona Neden Olan Plastik Yabancı Bir Cismin Ultrasonografik Teşhisi

Year 2020, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 74 - 79, 30.12.2020
