Abstract

The aim of this study was to reveal the changes in some blood electrolyte levels after LPS infusion in lambs. In the study, 8 Akkaraman breed lambs of both genders, aged 1-3 months, were used. To induce endotoxemia, LPS at a dose of 10 μg/kg was administered intravenously through the jugular vein in 50 ml of 0.9% NaCl over 30 minutes. Clinical examinations were performed and blood samples were taken before LPS administration and at the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 12th and 24th hours after the administration. Sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), chloride (Cl-) and ionized calcium (Ca+2) analyzes of the blood samples were performed on the blood gas device as soon as the blood was taken, without adding any anticoagulant substance. While a significant decrease in K+ level was observed at the 2nd hour after LPS infusion, a significant increase was detected at the 12th hour. While there was no significant change in Na+ and Cl- levels, the Ca+2 level decreased at all hours compared to the beginning, but no statistical difference was determined. As a result, it was evaluated that acute endotoxemia in lambs causes changes in K+ and Ca+2 levels and that monitoring these electrolytes in endotoxemic patients may be useful.

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, kuzularda LPS infüzyonu sonrası bazı kan elektrolit seviyelerindeki değişimlerin ortaya konulmasıydı. Çalışmada her iki cinsiyetten 1-3 aylık yaşta 8 adet Akkaraman ırkı kuzu kullanıldı.
